Sheila Cooper
Sheila Cooper is a Canadian-born, New York-based singer, alto saxophonist,
composer and arranger, Sheila Cooper is, as saxophone legend Lee Konitz
has noted, “A singer on her horn, and with her voice, and that’s the
best playing for me.” Her acclaimed first CD, titled Since You Were
Mine, featured world class rhythm section of Renee Rosnes, Scott Colley,
and Billy Drummond. Her follow-up CD, While the World is in Slumber,
features her trademark quirky, yet elegant renderings, of popular
standards. It also includes two original compositions (one vocal,
one instrumental). In addition to her band appearing on six European
tours, Sheila has appeared at many prestigious festivals, including
the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, Catskill Jazz Festival (featured bandleader),
and the Brockville Jazz Festival in Canada (featured band leader).
